Sandburg Men Fall to Braves Despite Gowan’s Career-High 37

Sophomore Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) dropped a career-high 37 points, but the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team came up short 98-88 at Black Hawk on Tuesday in the Chargers’ regular-season finale.
Gowan shot 14 of 24 overall and 6 of 11 from 3-point range while also adding seven rebounds and three steals. He surpassed his previous Sandburg-best of 32 points, set Nov. 9 last season against Waubonsee.
The Chargers (21-9 overall, 5-5 Arrowhead Conference) trailed by as many as 20 in the second half before cutting their deficit to 79-73 with 4:30 to go, but the Braves (11-19, 4-6) were able to hang on.
Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) had 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting for Sandburg, and Lane Ippensen (LaPrairie, Ill./Camp Point Central) added 10 points while going 4 of 5 from the floor.
Black Hawk’s Delaney Little hit nine 3s and scored a game-high 39. Terry Ford added 25 points for BHC.
UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
The Chargers will open the Region IV tournament Feb. 27, with the opponent and location to be announced early next week.
